“The women in distress that I meet every day, remind me of my role, often irritating, as a useless servant. What can I serve here? I don’t have the means at my disposal that I used to have in France. No influence on the police, no possibility to initiate legal action when terrified victims prefer to remain silent. But the smiles of the women who describe me their daily pain make me aware that not a trial, but above all a home and a listening ear are what they need. They are repeated throughout the day in their homes that they are useless, less than nothing. And often they are convinced. A friendly voice helps them to make sense of their own dignity, which is so often lacking. “You are a human being; you are God’s image, so infinitely worthy of love, God loves you and you personally.”
